GST SQD – Safe Quality Drilling

GST SQD Rail-Bound Drill Rig
GST

The SQD Rail-Bound Drill Rig is available in pneumatic or hydraulic configurations, offering flexibility to suit a wide range of underground mining environments. The pneumatic version can be equipped with an onboard compressor, providing greater independence and reducing reliance on external air supply.

Designed for the drilling of development, support, and blasting holes, the SQD operates efficiently at the development end. Its unique rollover assembly allows the rig to drill accurately in any direction, maximizing coverage and reducing the need for repositioning.

At GST, our drill rigs are engineered to be safe, accurate, and effective in demanding underground conditions. True to this philosophy, SQD stands for “Safe, Quality, Drilling”, reflecting our commitment to reliable performance, operator safety, and precision drilling.

Enhanced Operator & Crew Safety

he drill rig is engineered to place operator safety at the forefront of the drilling process. The operator is positioned more than four meters away from the face, securely located under a protective canopy, significantly reducing exposure to potential rock fall or face-related hazards.

Throughout drilling operations, the operator remains under permanent ground support (roof bolts), ensuring continuous protection while working at the development end.

The rig promotes disciplined and controlled drilling, resulting in stable, well-formed rock walls. This minimizes damage to hanging wall conditions and creates a safer working environment for the remainder of the development crew.

In addition, the SQD offers a safer drilling solution in poor or variable ground conditions, providing improved control and stability compared to conventional drilling methods.

Improved Efficiency & Cost Performance

The SQD Drill Rig is designed to deliver exceptional cost-efficiency through precise, controlled drilling and improved face advance.

Controlled drilling accuracy reduces the need for primary and secondary support, lowering overall support-related costs. Consistent drilling discipline improves blast quality, resulting in greater advance per blast cycle.

Improved face advance allows for fewer holes per round, which directly reduces explosive consumption and associated costs. This efficiency translates into longer rounds being drilled successfully, with round lengths of up to 3.8 metres achieved in operational conditions.

By enabling longer, cleaner rounds, the SQD significantly increases development rates and delivers a favourable unit cost per metre when compared to handheld drilling methods.

Efficient & Controlled Drilling Operations

Roof bolts are drilled remotely, significantly reducing the need for operators to work close to the face and improving overall safety during support installation.

By minimizing manual intervention and time spent in exposed areas, physical working conditions become more favourable and acceptable, contributing to reduced operator fatigue and improved shift productivity.

The controlled and mechanized drilling process also enhances operator skill development, allowing crews to focus on precision, consistency, and best drilling practices.

Drilling efficiency is further increased through the dual-boom configuration, with both booms capable of operating independently. This significantly reduces drilling time, enabling faster cycle completion and improved development rates.
